Running Dos Game On Windows XP

This is how I managed to get the SOM Dos Basketball Game to work on my Windows XP machine:

My computer has two partitions on the hard drive (C, D). The goal is to create a new partition with the FAT file format as the DOS game needs to run in this format. Windows XP is in the NTFS file format and the game will not run in the format. Through the Windows Computer Manager (do a window's help on creating a partition or logical drive) I deleted my D partition so that I could create two partitions out of it, one with NTFS again to replace my D partition and a new one with the FAT file system. Then I installed the game into this new partition or logical drive. You still can't play the game while windows is booted up. So, you have to create a boot disk (windows help will tell you how to do this). Stick the boot disk in, turn off your computer, and your computer will boot into an A:\ in DOS with the new partition (you created in the FAT file system with you SOMBK directory) will be recognized as your C:\. In windows your game will be on the partition "G:\" for example, but when you boot your computer it will be "C:\" because DOS can't recognize the NTFS format. I don't really know too much about the technical stuff, but I know this worked on my PC. The only problems were that I couldn't use my mouse or printer, but I found ways to get around by using the keys and after exiting the game, printing in windows. Hope this helps.

Along with not being able to use the mouse and print from the game, the game would occasionally lock up if I was really impatient and would hit too many keys at once while waiting for something to load. I also couldn't use the game setup features because the game would freeze up when trying to enter it. In order to print stuff from the game I had to save files as "print" files and then reboot the computer into windows and edit the print files with a text editor. The problem with this is that it takes a lot of time to move from DOS and Windows.
